What are the Benefits of CBD Oil?

CBD has so many healing benefits, and has become a prefered supplement over other natural products. It has incredible anti-inflammatory properties which work well in conjunction with the amazing pain relief properties. It also has the ability to affect the pain receptors in the brain which alleviates pain.

CBD has proven to be an effective treatment of depression, anxiety, stress and insomnia. It has also been used to treat the symptoms of disorders that cause epilepsy and seizures. One of the greatest aspects of CBD is that it has minimal side effects and in many people, it has no side effects at all.

Demystifying the Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid System, is shared between animals and humans we all have one, including the cannabis plant. As stated by Healthline "Experts are still trying to fully understand the ECS. But so far, we know it plays role in regulating a range of functions and processes, including:

  • sleep
  • mood
  • appetite
  • memory
  • production
  • fertility

The ECS exists and is active in your body even if you don’t use cannabis. Wild right?

Our brains are highly intelligent and when we talk about the flight or fight mode caused by any danger, adrenaline kicks in and we go into that state. So how does this work you ask... Well deep in your brain your emingnalys senses fear and danger and it sends signals to other parts of your brain and body, before adrenaline is produced. It then gets released throughout your bloodstream, muscles, your digestive system to make you poised to either fight or fly, then your heart rate increases.

Pharmacology of Adrenaline

So if we look at the pharmacology of adrenaline and unpack that. The adrenaline we think of a bit like a key and the androgen adrenaline receptor is a bit like the lock. So the key of adrenaline fits perfectly into this, like a lock.

The Endocannabinoid System Explained

So the ECS is very similar, in that it is designed to help your body respond to your environment either internally or externally. To then initiate various changes to what's going on around you in response to that. It's very important for brain development and what we call Synaptogenesis the formation of synapses between neurons in the nervous system.

Synaptic Pruning

It's also involved in what we call synaptic pruning which is the other scenario where some synapse might be superfluous os extra so they are actually pruned away. In other words, two really important functions.

So the Endocannabinoid System is there and for people who have lived a life where they never even heard of cannabis, are probably not aware that they have been exposed to it. The ECS helps us understand how cannabis works but cannabis is not the reason why it exists.

How it Works

There are two Endocannabinoids in your brain that produced in your brain in different tissues. The image below showcases the chemical structure of how it looks like. They act on two reactors CB1 and CB2, which are found in your brain in different tissues.

In other words the same lock and key scenario occurs where the endocannabinoids are the key and the receptors is the lock that unlocks these downstream responses.

So why do we make Endocannabinoids and when? As mentioned they really important to responding to our environment and we make them in response to all sorts of different things, such as the image below:

how-the-endocannabinoid-system-works-and-effects-your-body

They involved in appetite stimulation, de stressing, pain relief mechanisms and go up in different parts of the brain. So you can see here there is a very important way our body balances things out. So if you got an increase in stress the endocannabinoids will fight to reduce your stress. If you have an increase in pain they will produce pain relieving effects.

FUN FACT - they also very much increased in response to singing and dancing and can do so by 42%. Find more information of that study at this link (Click Here)
